Dug Dug

The film is a socio-religious satire based on a real-life cultural phenomenon rooted in Rajasthan. As per the plot, a local villager called Thakur Lal dies in a tragic motorcycle accident in an isolated place on some desolate rural highway. After his death, his moped (called "Dug Dug" in local slang/language) is seized by the police and kept in the Police station. The Dug Dug mysteriously reappears at the site of accident again and again, becoming a topic of wide and wild discussions and rumours. As is usually the result of such incidences, the Locals start believing this bizarre occurrence as being linked with some divine origin. This soon gets transformed in some form of full-blown cult around the vehicle, withy devotees coming in huge numbers from all over the places to pray to the Dug Dug. They also start making all kinds of innovative and unconventional offerings, including alcohol and cigarettes. The story is said to be based on the famous "Bullet Baba" temple near Jodhpur in Rajasthan that came up in late 1980s, related with a person called Om Singh Rathore, who died in identical circumstances, while going on his Royal Enfield Bullet, which crashed into a tree. Today, a full-fledged temple stands in the given site, where incidences similar to that presented in the film are said to have happened after the accident.
