Comrade Kalyan

Sree Vishnu is once again in his element, but this time, his performance comes across as sincere rather than being reduced to that of an entertainer.

Comrade Kalyan” has some entertaining moments, particularly because of Satya and Sree Vishnu. But the film never becomes the full-fledged comedy that its title and premise promise. The film leans more towards sentiment and revenge, ultimately culminating in a message-oriented ending. The major concern is that comedy films need to sustain or even elevate the humour in the second half compared to the first, without diluting it with serious or sentimental elements. This affects the film’s overall tempo and viewing experience, even though there is nothing specific to point out in terms of content.

While there is nothing much to write home about Vijai Bulganin’s music, barring the title track, the film is helped by terrific landscapes that add to its visual appeal.

Ultimately, the film has enough amusing moments to remain watchable, but its interesting premise deserved a more engaging screenplay.
