Altogether, Champion turns out to be a decent outing with strong technical values and neat blend of historic events with fictional elements.. Pradeep Advaitham, came up with a captivating and challenging subject, handles it competently. His and Roshan Meka's hard work is visible through out the film. Though a stronger emotional grip could have elevated the film further. Champion is a sincere attempt of depicting period war drama based on true event that blends sports with history in an engaging manner. Even though the film falters in emotional depth at places, its strong performances, technical finesse, and rich production values make it a watchable theatrical experience. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2.5 rating for Champion.Read at source

Champion was promoted as a period action-love drama with a sports backdrop, but the film turns out to be something quite different. This disconnect between marketing and the actual content works against the film and affects the viewing experience. The movie starts decently by establishing the sports backdrop, then shifts into the usual introduction of various characters, including the heroine and others. While this setup was necessary, it feels flat. Everything keeps going in a loop, and there are no particular highs or moments that create emotion at any point in the first half until the interval block. Gira Gira was a breather in the first half with its soothing music and picturization. When the conflict opens up in the second half, there isn’t much that changes. It’s the same loop without any impact. Everything stays at a surface level. We don’t feel the empathy needed for such themes.Read at source
The second half of Champion delivers some emotional content with the Telangana Sayudha Poratam backdrop and Bhairanpally real stories handled with integrity. The football champion track of Michael ( Played by Roshan) in the first half, needed stronger development. The first half has boring moments. While the film boasts high technical standards, good production values, and effectively depicts Nizam atrocities, it falls short of its full potential at times. It is slow paced obviously, might appeal to limited set of audience Still, setting aside commercial expectations, it remains watchable as a sincere tribute to the Telangana Sayudha Poratam warriors and for its high-quality filmmaking.Read at source
