One good thing about Detective Sherdil is its crispness in execution without the distraction of songs. Even the casting is top-notch from Boman Irani and Ratna Pathak Shah, who blend into each of their characters like it's no big deal. On the other hand, Banita Sandhu, playing a speech-impaired person and Sumeet Vyas as a spoilt brat, do support the story well, being the right catalysts. Yes, the casting and performances do take the cake, but the faltering in the screenplay is heavily due to the obvious ways the story goes and I was quite disappointed.

Mandala Murders walks a tightrope between trying to entertain and exposing its own flaws. It takes time to pull you in and reveals how the cult is far more powerful than expected. To justify the ultimate purpose behind the killings, the murders continue unchecked, with the officers failing their mission at every step. It constantly reminded me that, even though the saviour complex exists, it doesn’t always translate into execution. For example, Abhishek Bachchan's character in the Dhoom series asserts that one can only apprehend a thief in the act of committing the crime. But here, no such moment arrives until the very end—when you, just like Rea Thomas, finally piece together who the cult’s mastermind is in 2025.

Renzu takes on the significant responsibility of portraying the story of an important artist on screen and succeeds in many respects. However, the lens is so shiny and pink that it only highlights the artist's appreciation, failing to convey the extent of the struggle she must have endured. Yes, the destination is Padma Shri, but her journey has been zeroed down to not make it look glorious but an effortless one, which doesn't do justice to Rani Begum. Songs of Paradise becomes so anti-climactic in its narrative that the fictionalised end doesn't do any favour to the film but takes away the real charm it should have uncovered eventually.

Thode Door Thode Paas cleverly uses the lure of a crore to sever the digital cord. While the plot has a few glitches and its depth is a little screen-shallow, the relatable cast and breezy pace make it easy to connect with. It's a charming, signal-strong reminder that sometimes, the best connection is not Wi-Fi, but family. Log off your worries and log in for a quick, feel-good watch.
