Synopsis

Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story

Bobby, a young woman traveling from Glasgow to Cardiff, has her flight diverted to London due to a volcanic ash cloud. Stranded at Heathrow Airport, she crosses paths with Rishi, an eager stranger who instantly falls for her. Rishi follows Bobby to Cambridge, where they spend a day exploring the city, sharing stories and bonding. Despite initial resistance, Bobby slowly warms up to Rishi, though she remains hesitant due to a recent heartbreak. Two years later, the two unexpectedly meet again at a couples therapy session. Now married but facing issues, they revisit their past, confront their insecurities, and try to rediscover the spark in their relationship. Whether they reconcile or part ways forms the crux of the story.

Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story has become yet another film that's been added to the library of films that's been created in an effort to show that love story hasn't died in movies. But the efforts are lacking too much soul that it has turned out to be just a film that will remind you of stock clearance sales at a mall. Kunal Kohli's Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story tries to serenade us with nostalgia but ends up being a scratched record of recycled romance. With a love story that’s neither timeless nor trendy, this one’s more of a missed connection.

Kunal Kohli's story is ordinary. Kunal Kohli's screenplay (additional screenplay by Hardik Gajjar) has its moments but falls flat, especially as the conflict is not too strong. Hardik Gajjar's dialogues are youthful and also deep. The comic one-liners could have been funnier. Kunal Kohli's direction is simple. He pays homage to his earlier film HUM TUM [2004] and also the BEFORE SUNRISE series as for most parts of the film, the protagonists are walking around and talking to each other about life and love. A parallel track is also going on of the protagonists at the therapist’s clinic and it keeps one intrigued as to what must have made them take this step. The mid-point, when the lovers separate, is emotional.

But turns out, things can indeed go wrong in some cases. Horribly wrong. Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story is a shining example of how not to make a romance. It starts with the director (also the writer here)- Kunal Kohli. He has either lost his touch after the much-loved Hum Tum- or had to direct Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story at gunpoint. Nothing else explains why he has no control over what is happening here. Editors are Sanjay Sankla and Pratul Gaikwad, and two people here couldn't do one job. There is nothing much to work with. The film revolves around two young adults Rishi (Vardhan Puri) and Bobby (filmmaker Shekhar Kapur’s daughter Kaveri in her debut), who meet abroad. They are singing songs within an hour of meeting, getting into random mock fights which are supposed to be funny…
