Saiyaara

The chemistry between the lead actors is what works so well, because do we see that in the movies nowadays? Unfortunately, the benchmark is so low after witnessing over a century of cinema in existence, this is what we crave. But at least we can appreciate the efforts that are being taken, because there's even a dearth of them.

Saiyaara' is a slow-paced love story that tries to reach the hearts of the audience despite its unfamiliarity and incompleteness. The film raises the question: When does love become complete? While there is a lot of passion, pain, and compassion, some parts of the film may seem boring to the audience. Still, its honesty and the dedication of the actors make it special. In the end, ‘Saiyaara’ is an experience that is for those audiences who want to see new actors and like to immerse themselves in Mohit Suri’s film world. This film is different from many conventional romantic dramas, but it is a typical Mohit Suri style film, which reminds one of his old films. However, you can watch this film once.

Story-wise, Saiyaara doesn’t offer much novelty. Sanam Teri Kasam, which found a second life with its re-release in 2024, followed a very similar path. And most of Mohit’s romantic films follow familiar beats—you can often guess what’s coming next. The first half here sets the tone quite well, and the film is naturally emotional in the second half. Mohit knows his audience very well: he knows the majority would comprise either couples or groups of friends. Writer Sankalp Sadanah keeps things conventional yet appealing. So, if it's a story we’ve heard before, what works in the film’s favour? Three things: a talented cast, soulful music, and some beautifully crafted scenes.

Aneet Padda shines as Vaani, portraying her character’s journey from heartbreak to hope with remarkable sensitivity.

The film leans heavily on its soulful soundtrack, delivering hit after hit, but it also gives ample space for both Padda and Panday to shine. Suri paints his cinematic canvas with bold strokes of drama, emotion, love, loss, and hope. And each colour stands tall. Panday is a star, right from the first scene, even when he subtly reminds you of Ranveer Singh from his initial days. And Padda, an absolute delight to watch. While both have room to grow as performers, together they command the screen with a chemistry that is warm, electric, and deeply believable. Honestly, I don't remember the last time Bollywood brought such palpable chemistry on-screen that makes your heart race faster. Their shared silences speak as much as their dialogues, and even when the screenplay falters, their bond holds the narrative together.
