Synopsis

Ufff Yeh Siyapaa

In this uniquely wordless comedy of errors, Kesari Lal Singh (Sohum Shah), a sheepish common man, finds himself entangled in a spiralling mess when his wife, Pushpa (Nushratt Bharuccha), leaves him, convinced that he has been flirting with their neighbour, Kamini (Nora Fatehi). He has not. But before he can clear his name, a wrongly delivered drug parcel sets off a chain of escalating disasters, the worst of which is a dead body turning up in his home. As Kesari scrambles to fix the situation, another corpse appears, turning his house into a full-blown crime scene. To make matters worse, Police Inspector Hasmukh (Omkar Kapoor) arrives with a personal agenda, only adding to the madness. What follows is a wildly absurd, darkly comic chain of events unfolding without a single spoken word.

कुल मिलाकर साइलेंट कॉमेडी के नाम पर बनी ‘उफ्फ ये सियापा’ अधिकांश मौकों पर हंसाने से चूक जाती है। क्योंकि यहां हंसाने से ज्यादा कहानी को फंसाने पर जोर दिया गया है, जिस वजह से फिल्म दोनों जगह से मात खा जाती है। क्या हैं कमियां ‘उफ्फ ये सियापा’ की सबसे बड़ी कमी इसकी लंबी अवधि है। साइलेंट कॉमेडी फिल्म को 1 घंटा 20 मिनट या अधिकांश डेढ़ घंटा का होना चाहिए। लेकिन सोहम शाह की ये फिल्म लगभग दो घंटे (116 मिनट) की है। जिससे कई मौकों पर ऐसा लगता है कि फिल्म को खामखा खींचा जा रहा है। एक ही कहानी को बार-बार दोहराया गया है, जिससे दर्शक ऊबने लगते हैं। एक ही जैसे सीन का बार-बार दोहराव फिल्म को उबाऊ बनाता है।

As to Sohum Shah, is he the same actor who left such an impact in The Ship Of Theseus, and who played the lead so assuredly in Tumbaad? Whatever happened to him? Here his character, who gets major screen time, is just plain embarrassing, a bumbler obsessed with his own nether regions. I felt especially bad for the excellent Sharib who is left to wander through his witless film: what is he doing here? Bharuccha spends a lot of her time moaning and groaning. So do we, the viewers. Uff.
