On the flipside, the film moves at a slow pace. In the absence of sufficient humour and drama, the narrative becomes too dry. The overall track of Salma enjoying in a non-judgmental environment reminds one of QUEEN [2014] while Sikandar’s speech seems inspired by Akshay Kumar’s broken English lecture sequence in PAD MAN [2018]. A few developments are silly. Salma’s picture goes viral and even her family is aware of it. But Salma doesn’t get a whiff of it at all and she learns about it only once she’s home from the trip. The makers tried to give a hatke conclusion to the story. However, the finale fails to have the desired impact.

The London bits are long-drawn, and have unnecessary bits like the meeting with Meet's grandparents, but for most part Single Salma, is enjoyable, and the actors are in fine form. Huma Qureshi fits the role perfectly, and does not allow Salma even an iota of self-pity or ditziness. Shreyas Talpade is a delight as the almost woke singleton. Sunny Singh as the flirty Londoner, and Nidhi Singh as the wisdom-imparting friend are well cast. Huma Qureshi is one of the producers of the film along with her actor brother Saquib Saleem. It's good to see her help create a film which is as charming as it is empowering, without taking on the stridency that so many women-oriented films invariably adopt.

However, despite the strong performances, Single Salma struggles with tone and rhythm. What begins as a layered exploration of identity and independence slips into formula, the conservative girl falling for the first man who makes her feel seen, mistaking attraction for love. There are moments that remind you of Queen (2014), but without its effortless flow or organic humour. Where Queen felt like an unforced journey of self-discovery, Single Salma feels more like a well-meant essay on liberation. Sohail Sen’s music barely registers, and the film’s pacing, particularly in the second half, is uneven. The narrative loses its spark just when it should be finding its emotional peak. Still, there’s sincerity in Single Salma, in its attempt to portray an independent woman not as a stereotype but as someone flawed, curious, and learning to define herself beyond societal labels.
