Rituparna is the very picture of a concerned daughter in the film. Her silences, her secret tears, breakdowns all pointing towards her initial denial and then gradual acceptance. Her scenes with Sharmila Tagore are the soul of the film. There’s a vulnerability there in those scenes, a certain pathos that stays with you. Here are two actresses at their peak effortlessly delivering their best. Indraneil Sengupta has more of a supporting role here and lends a certain fortitude to the proceedings, a manly energy which was much needed. Of course, he does get to show his insecure side as well. The film has been touted as Sharmila Tagore’s comeback to Bengali cinema and it’s as if she never went away. She doesn’t just act, she lives her role with consummate ease, making us root for her character throughout.
