Love Marriage

Love Marriage is a middling narrative which majorly scores for its neat execution and good performances. It is honest in its making and source material, but lacks in giving anything beyond that. Sure, it is a film that you can watch with your families, feel not dejected, and perhaps come out with a smile. But surely it could have explored a lot more by going into the depths of intricacies that a local roots could have offered.

Love Marriage tries to make multiple pertinent points about the institution of marriage, and is moderately successful at the same time. Take, for instance, Ramachandran losing his cool about caste pride, especially since none of his brethren wanted to get him married into their family due to various reasons, including financial status. Or the way he has a meltdown regarding the dismissive attitude towards the birth of a girl child. Both of these scenes are strong in content, but falter in execution simply because they come out of nowhere. We understand the idea behind the scene, but don’t feel the emotion. There are other moments in the film where sentiments are found wanting. Love Marriage is held together by likeable and earnest performances, especially from the leads — Vikram Prabhu, Sushmitha, and Meenakshi — who make do with the superficial nature of their roles.

Yet, with all these quirky characters, the film doesn’t achieve its full potential. The first half of the film treads smoothly because it doesn’t take itself seriously. Though predictable, the story moves forward with the gradual introduction of conflicts, which makes one wonder what’s next. But, when the film starts taking itself seriously, it falls prey to redundancy and outdated ideas. With a taut runtime of two hours, ‘Love Marriage’ still feels stretched because of its overdramatic and convenient turn of events in the second half. The whole stretch featuring Vikram Prabhu’s Ramachandran and Meenakshi Dinesh’s ‘Radha’ feels inorganic and forced. However, the film gets the message right - especially when Ram talks about how society pressures people to live and lead a life based on a timeline that everyone follows.

The performances elevate the narrative. Vikram Prabhu delivers a mature, understated portrayal of a man caught between tradition and personal desire. Sushmitha Bhat brings quiet strength to Ambika, while Meenakshi Dinesh adds sparkle with her lively presence. Complementing the performances is Sean Roldan’s delightful soundtrack, which brings warmth and texture to the film, enhancing its emotional undercurrents. In all, Love Marriage is a charming blend of gentle humour, social commentary, and emotional honesty. It doesn’t try to force grand messages but instead celebrates the small, imperfect moments that make relationships real. With its sincere storytelling and nostalgic family-film appeal, it offers an enjoyable, feel-good experience that stays with you—much like a real marriage, full of quirks, surprises, and quiet resilience.
