Jassi Weds Jassi

Set in Haldwani, Uttar Pradesh (now Uttarakhand) in 1996, the film follows Jaspreet, also known as Jassi (Harshvardhan Singh Deo), a hopeless romantic determined to find true love. His pursuit leads him to Jasmeet (Rehmat Rattan), but before he can win her heart, he faces an unexpected obstacle — Jaswinder (Sikandar Kher), also nicknamed Jassi. Along the way, his actions inadvertently disturb the lives of Sehgal (Ranvir Shorey) and his wife Sweeti (Grusha Kapoor), whose marriage is already on shaky ground. Ultimately, 'Jassi Weds Jassi' is a comedy-drama that fails to understand the genre it seeks to celebrate. Director Paran Bawa successfully recreates the setting of 1996, but the spirit of that era's romance is lost beneath a pile of underdeveloped conflicts and repetitive plot devices. While the committed performances by Harshh Vardhan Singh Deo, Rehmat Rattan, and especially the veteran cast members like Shorey and Kapoor, consistently elevate the material, talent alone can't sustain a nearly two-and-a-half-hour narrative. The result is a film that feels like a cinematic throwback that hasn't aged gracefully. 'Jassi Weds Jassi' attempts to evoke the charm of old-school Bollywood but settles instead for its most predictable stereotypes.
