Chutney Sambar

At a time when violent action films are aplenty, a web series like 'Chutney Sambar' offers some respite. It is restrained in so many ways and reminds us of what Radha Mohan is capable of. Each episode explores the backstory of the characters, including Rathasamy's wife, his daughter, house cook Sophie (Vani Bhojan), brother-in-law Ilango (Nithin Sathya) and Peter (Elango Kumaravel). Radha Mohan has incorporated several characters, which keeps things progressing. That being said, 'Chutney Sambar' is not a show without flaws. Sometimes, the backstories feel too tedious, especially when there are some unwanted metaphors used to describe the characters. While some of the jokes work, some do not land. There are also a few uninteresting arcs, which add no value to the story on the whole. 'Chutney Sambar' is a decent web series with the right intentions.
