Aadu 3

After a high-voltage chase involving helicopters, speedboats, and snipers, the film seems to build toward a fitting conclusion. Instead, it ends abruptly midway, setting up the next part. This comes despite a runtime nearing three hours. Sure, the cliffhanger is intriguingly absurd, but it raises a question. Is there enough material to justify splitting the story? A tighter first half, especially trimming the prolonged setup around the stone’s location, along with unnecessary detours like the ‘special dance number’, might have allowed the story to conclude within a single film. That could have made this a truly complete experience—a genuine one last ride. Or are we in for more madness, with characters stranded in timelines they don’t belong to? For now, we wait for the ‘final ride’.

Aadu 3 is not without its enjoyable moments. The characters are still inherently funny, Jayasurya’s presence still carries weight, and there are enough scattered laughs to remind you why the franchise built such a loyal fanbase. But it also feels like a film caught between nostalgia and reinvention, trying to scale up its world while holding on to the loose, chaotic spirit that made the earlier films work. In doing so, it delivers a watchable but uneven chapter that leans heavily on past goodwill while promising that the real fireworks may be reserved for what comes next.

Despite having many elements and an ambitious plot, Aadu 3 ends up being an absolute letdown. Although crafted by Midhun Manuel Thomas himself, the creator of the franchise, the movie comes across as an amateurish fan-fiction, with the soul of the original completely missing. One of the major attractions of the first instalment was how unhinged the characters were. They could and would say anything, anywhere. They had zero filters and were too naive to understand the importance of thinking before speaking. Just as important was Pappan’s equation with each member of his gang. Unfortunately, those elements are totally missing in Aadu 3. Although Arakkal Abu (Saiju Kurup), Captain Cleetus (Dharmajan Bolgatty), Sasi Aashan (Indrans), and Sarbath Shameer (Vijay Babu), among others, are present in this instalment too, they seem to have lost their voice and soul.
