However, where the film goes wrong is when Anurag tries to cramp the narrative with relevant social issues like religious fanaticism, love jihad, predatory behaviour, status differences and homophobia, among other things. This ode to modern love felt old and rusty. The theme could have solely been around the kind of problems today's youngsters face with the ideological clash they have with their parents. The film is nicely built up till the interval but loses steam in the second half. In fact, the homosexual dynamics felt like they were forcibly added to the script. The pace at which Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat went felt hurried in some places.Â
After Mimi and Luka Chuppi, director Laxman Utekar seems to have continued his entertainment streak with Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. Starring Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan, the film is about a couple who want a house of their own to stay away from their family. They get a divorce to use the Indian Government's flagship program Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to get a flat. The film releases in theatres today, June 2.
Charlie is the film's soul, who conveys a range of emotions brilliantly. Her personality is enough to fill the film's silences as she forever disrupts her surroundings with her naughtiness. She would run away with Dharma's underwear and make him chase her around the colony in just a towel. She would mess up his house and even drop a rat on her master's face. In fact, the pup seems to be living her life in the film without noticing the cameras or the crew around. 777 Charlie is filled with emotional, fun and aww-worthy moments. The film totally rests on her shoulder, or should we paws? She is always in the moment.
Clearly, the makers wanted to stick to the theme of adventure, with shades of mythology mixed adequately. However, it ends up looking like a kids' treasure hunt game as Karthikeya and Mugdha (played by Anupama Parameswaran) go touring the city in search of clues. It honestly makes you lose interest. The film also seemingly borrows from Harry Potter - the hero can communicate with snakes. Okay. But, we wish the makers had focused equally on Lord Krishna references and a cohesive story. Also, the whole film seems to be made in slo-mo. The second half of the film, with a lot of appealing visuals, might appeal to the audience.
